Serving

He sat down, called the Twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants
to be first must be least of all and the servant of all.” Mark 9:35

We are called to be the hands and feet of Christ to serve others. At St. John’s we actively seek out ways to serve both within the church and beyond our walls. We offer service opportunities for all life stages, including families, children, youth and adults. Our service opportunities include:

Servant Center: Many times people want to serve, but don't want to make a long-term commitment to a team or committee. The Servant Center is where you can find up to date information on serving needs in the upcoming week(s).

Groups for Serving: We have small groups that focus on serving in specific areas, including the Mission Garden and Winter Patrol ministries.

Missions Team: The Missions Team supports ministries to our hungry and hurting brothers and sisters locally, nationally and across the globe. They coordinate the mission activities at St. John's.

Mission Trips: There is an annual week long
youth mission trip in July, and we try to offer an adult mission trip at least once a year.

Partner Ministries: St. John’s is partnering with Trinity UMC in Granite City, IL to help feed hungry children through the Twigs Ministry. We are also working with the Faith Coalition to rehab a local home that will be sold to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. Finally, during the school year Project 612 helps collect uneaten prepackaged food, destined for school cafeteria trash bins, and distribute it to the needy through local public aid agencies.
