Rev. Troy Benton, Senior Pastor


Rev. Troy has been the Senior Pastor of St. John's since July, 2015. Prior to that he was the Associate Pastor of Christ United Methodist Church in Fairview Heights, Il. He has also served in churches in Northern Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and Georgia. Troy is a 1995 graduate of Garrett-Evangelical, obtaining a Master of Divinity degree, with an emphasis on the African-American church. Troy is married to his college sweetheart, Emma. Together they nurture their daughters Taylor and Autumn, and endeavor to serve God faithfully.

As the Senior Pastor at St. John’s, Rev. Troy is in the office throughout much of the week from 9 am to 4 pm. He does have occasional meetings and luncheons away from the church, but is happy to meet with people when he is in the office. You can also make appointments with him throughout the week. Rev. Katie Gholson, Pastor of Discipleship


Katie has served on staff at St.John's since 2008. She graduated from Eden Theological Seminary and Washington University with dual degrees in Pastoral Studies and Social Work in 2009. She was ordained as a full member Deacon of the United Methodist Church in June, 2015. She is passionate about fostering spiritual formation in children, youth, and adults. Her role will support the Youth Ministry, Adult Discipleship Ministry, and Pastoral Ministry of this congregation.

Steve Morby, Intensify Coordinator


Steve has been an active member of St. John's and the Youth Ministry Team since 2009. He was hired for the position in January, 2015. He is passionate about youth ministry and has several years of experience. Steve and his wife Amy have three beautiful daughters, Mary, Lucy and Julie.

Tress Kurzym 

Tress Kurzym, Amplify Coordinator


Tress joined our staff in 2016 to work with our Middle School youth. She has years of experience in teaching drama classes to middle school students in school and now she is translating this to minister to students at St. John's. Her fun personality matched with her organization and her passion for Jesus make her an awesome addition to our staff at St. John's. Tress and her husband Kevin have two amazing kids: Charlie and Chloe.

Michelle Babb, Director of Servant Ministry


Michelle has been a member of St. John's since 2003. Her personal mission is to inspire others to joyfully live out their faith through effective service to others. Michelle gives staff support to all of the service and mission ministries of our congregation. Denise Downes, Director of Children & Family Ministry 


Denise and her family have been members of St. John’s since they moved to Edwardsville in 2005. In 2008 she was the Assistant Youth Director at St. John’s. She assumed the newly-created position of Directory of Children and Family Ministries in January 2009. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Ecology and a Master of Social Work – both from the University of Illinois. She was an elementary school social worker for eight years and worked as a youth director for another church for three years, in addition to all her volunteer work along the way.
