Missions Team

The Missions Team supports ministries to our hungry and hurting brothers and sisters locally, nationally and across the globe. Our group also seeks to educate the congregation about the worldwide mission of the United Methodist Church. We provide connections and opportunities to serve in our community and surrounding areas.

Locally we:

  • Partner with Trinity UMC in Granite City to help with the TWIGS summer lunch program for school age children. Volunteers distribute lunches to children at 12 different sites.
  • Partner with the Faith Coalition to rehab a home for Habitat for Humanity.
  • Prepare and serve meals to the Alton Salvation Army residents once a month.
  • Contribute food, school supplies, Christmas gifts and cash for the Glen-Ed Pantry.
  • Encourage volunteers for Faith in Action, which provides assistance to elderly and shut-in members of the community.
  • Provide volunteers for the month of March to deliver Meals on Wheels to the homebound and elderly in our community.
  • Provide emergency assistance as needed for flood and storm damage clean-up and home repair.
  • Bake desserts and other snacks for the families of hospice patients at the neighboring hospice faciility, Relais Bonne Eau.

Nationally we:

  • Sponsor annual mission trips to needy areas in the United States. The Mission Team also supports these trips through several fundraisers including a trivia night, flower sales, mission meals and a bread bake.

Globally we:

  • Support denomination-wide special offerings to provide assistance nationally and worldwide.
  • Support Heifer Project, which raises funds to provide farm animals to poor people in the U.S. and other countries.
  • Conduct an Offering of Letters, where we write to Congress in support of policies to help end hunger and poverty.
  • Coordinate special projects, such as flood bucket donations.

Servant Opportunities

Volunteers help plan, publicize and carry out annual programs, as well as other special projects. We always need people to help plan and run fundraising events. We also need people to research new ideas for mission trips and help organize the trips.
