St. John’s Strategic Plan: Join the Journey

"Where there is no vision, the people get out of control,
but whoever obeys instruction is happy.”
Proverbs 29:18

The leadership of St. John’s takes that challenge very seriously and has developed a strategic plan for 2014-2016 of where God is leading us.

One of the key components of our strategic plan is the idea of being “missional.” This means that everything the church ought to be and do is mission: “Missions” should not be one church program among many, but the church’s core identity as witnesses sent by God into the world. Using this concept of a missional church, we are pleased to share with you the priorities from the 2014-2016 plan:

“So that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power
belongs to God and does not come from us.”
2 Cor. 4:7b

Lean on the Holy Spirit: The missional community confesses its dependence upon the Holy Spirit, shown in particular in its practice of corporate prayer.

“Our inner nature is being renewed day by day.” 2 Cor. 4:16

Biblical Learning and Discipleship: The missional church is a community where all members are learning what it means to be disciples of Jesus. The Bible has a continuing, converting, formative role in the church’s life.

“Follow my example, just like I follow Christ’s.” 1 Corinthians 11:1

Missional Leadership and Development: The Holy Spirit gives the missional church a community of leaders who cultivate within themselves and the congregation a desire to practice their faith and service inside and outside the church.

The intent of our 3 priorities is to enable us to lean more fully upon the Holy Spirit, learn more about the ways and life of Jesus Christ, and lead others to go forth into God’s Kingdom to change the world. We are excited to begin this next chapter in the life of our church, and we hope you will Join the Journey!
